This week I had the opportunity to join EWTN’s Beacon of Truth with Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers for a four day deep dive into Theology of Fitness — a groundbreaking approach to an integrated faith and fitness life rooted in Catholic anthropology.
Day One focused on the Physical Fitness pillar.
In this conversation, we explored the Church’s understanding of the body as good, embodied, and ordered toward mission. We discussed how modern culture often separates the spiritual life from physical discipline. And, how the Catholic tradition rejects that split.
The body is not a disposable shell nor merely a machine to optimize. It is part of the human person, entrusted to us by God.
Drawing from Scripture and the tradition of the Church, we examined:
• The goodness of the body in Genesis
• The Incarnation and Resurrection as affirmations of embodied life
• The body as temple of the Holy Spirit
• Physical discipline as a training ground for virtue
• Strength ordered toward service, endurance, and mission
Callers joined from across the country, asking thoughtful questions about how faith and fitness intersect in everyday life.
This conversation marks the beginning of a four part series exploring the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual pillars of Theology of Fitness.
Great job Roxie! So proud of you, this message is SO timely for me right now.
